A Pittsburgh artist created a Barbie doll using an average woman's measurements and a 3-D printer, to show what the famous doll would look like if she had areal woman's proportions. Jen Markham has the story.

People make such a big deal out of everything. When I was little I never ONCE thought about how "nice" Barbie's body was- honestly, I was more concerned with her pretty clothes and acting out silly scenarios. Barbie is a TOY, not a social standard.

Everybody knows why Barbie is the most successful doll ever made. It's just that nobody in the media wants to talk about it.

I played with Barbies my entire childhood, and never once did it occur to me that I should look like any of my Barbie dolls. When I got older and first encountered this idea that Barbie dolls should be changed or outright banned because "they cause body dysmorphia," it honestly shocked me. The same goes for the Disney princesses; little girls don't look at Ariel or Barbie and think, "If I don't have that figure, something is wrong with me". This whole thing is ridiculous. Barbie was never meant to look real and little girls know that, and parents everywhere are overthinking it. Why wasn't GI Joe ever banned for giving little boys body dysmorphia? (Hint: Because it didn't.)

If one wants their kids playing with dolls, it wouldn't hurt with more dolls like these.

Soooo apparently only average is real, if you are above or below average you are no longer considered real. I will use that in my future court cases by proving that because I am above average height that I could not commit any crimes because I am not real. Should have been titled "average" Barbie.

I love how they say stuff like realistic as if everybody has that type of body

Thank you for saying the truth of what all people look like.

honestly if i were a little girl again and i had the choice between the creepy realistic barbie and the normal barbie id choose the "anorexic" one. As a child, i never once compared myself to barbie. I dont think girls' insecurities have anything to do with a doll, because when you're that young you kinda just see everyone the same, at least i did. It's the expectations of models and celebrities' beauty that everyone else gets insecure about, not some kids toy. Sorry, but a doll that looks like a human is really creepy, I get the concept and all, but that face scared the hell outta me. Kids like cartoons, ya know?

How about dolls with different body shapes? Does it really have to be one or the other?

I played with Barbie dolls when I was a kid, and I never thought I should try to look like her, or not look like her. It's a doll. All I cared about was that it was a doll with cool clothes. They don't change the GI Joe action figures because boys don't look like it, so why are they so worried about Barbie? They're just TOYS!

Darn they found out that I've always wanted to have Barbie's waist when I was 5-7. It was totally my biggest worry. -_- really my biggest worry was when I was going to get nap time.

If Barbie was real, she would be about 5'9 and 95 lb. she would go down in the 'anorexic' category. And because of her unrealistic body proportions. She wouldn't be able to stand, she would have to walk on all fours

I totally agree with the fact that barbie just isn't an accurate representation of what a woman looks like, but when I was younger I never really viewed barbie as this "perfect thing" I wanted to look like. Just that she was fun to dress up and play with, lol. I think this is more for teens that feel insecure, while as most children wouldn't really have self consciousness from seeing barbies. Idk. Can't we just try loving ourselves and stop blaming other things for making us feel insecure.

So you're saying girls who look like Barbie aren't real women..... Wow ok
6 лет назадdestiney walker
many they should make a variety of sizes in the doll so everyone is happy, it would be more realistic anyways being that not everyone is the same size

Guys. Barbie is just a doll. WHy be jealous of a doll? Some dolls arent meant to look realistic. People arent going around complaining they don't look like those monster high or whatever they are called dolls. (well...)
